The Rare Book Collections housed in the Special Collections Department consists of published and printed materials classified as being too rare and valuable to circulate. Included in Rare Books are the collections of prominent authors from the Appalachian region of Kentucky.
Jesse Stuart Collection
The Jesse Stuart Collection consists of published literary works written by Jesse Stuart. The collection was donated by his wife Naomi Deane Stuart to Morehead State University in the late 1970s. The collection contains rare first editions, illustrated editions, foreign language editions and autographed books.
James Still Collection
The James Still Collection consists of published literary works written by James Still and donated by him to Morehead State University. The collection contains rare first editions, unique illustrated editions and autographed books.
Roger W. Barbour Collection
The Roger W. Barbour Collection consists of scientific publications written and acquired by the Kentucky naturalist Roger Barbour from the 1930s to the 1980s. The collection was donated by Dr. Barbour and his wife from 1986 to 1990.
