Once you have done a search in the library's main search bar and the results list appears, there will be a "Research Assistant" option at the top of the page.

Once you have clicked on "Research Assistant," another box will appear where you will be prompted to log in with your MSU ID and password.  If you are on campus, you will just need to click on the "Student, Faculty, Staff" option.  The system will then automatically log you in. 

When you are logged in, you can type in a natual language search of your research question into the Research Assistant Search Bar.  

  • The Assistant will provide you five relevant library resources, and it will give you an overivew of those sources.

  • It will also provide related research questions that could generate additional results.

EBSCO Databases

EBSCO databases such as Academic Search Ultimate have a "Natural Language Search" option that is automatically turned on.  If you would prefer to do a traditional search, turn off the Natural Language option by clicking the button.

Once your results list appears, some of the items will have a "Generate AI Insights" option.

Choosing to "Generate AI Insights" will give you 2-5 bulleted points about the article, which could help you decide if you want to read the article or not.  This could help save you time when you are researching.  

Proquest

In Proquest Central Premium, you will see AI-generated keyword suggestions once you have done your initial search.  They will appear under the search bar at the top of the screen.

The Research Assistant will appear once you have clicked into an item.  It will provide key takeaways, additional topics discussed, and give you the option to explore sources.  At the bottom of the screen, you will also have options to:
