Anyone who sets up a free account can borrow e-books from this collection for a period of two weeks. They can be read in the browser, or downloaded using Adobe Digital Editions (a free piece of software used for managing loans). Has more than 900,000 books.
Over 50,000 free e-books available in PDF, ePub, Kindle, and TXT formats. Some percentage of the books are from Project Gutenberg. So essentially this serves as an alternate interface.
The World Digital Library (WDL) is a project of the U.S. Library of Congress supported by UNESCO. The WDL makes available on the Internet, free of charge and in multilingual format, significant primary materials (with books being one of the item types) from all countries and cultures. It includes more than 2,000 books.
