Collections

Camden-Carroll Library collects a wide variety of digital and physical information sources for the use of MSU students, faculty, staff, and other Library members. Below is our collection information with locations. 

Appalachian-Kentucky Collection

  • The Appalachian-Kentucky Collection consists of published and printed materials, microfilm and maps that focus upon the rich history and culture of the Appalachian region of Kentucky. The collection includes regional and county histories, local church records, regional newspapers and various other published and printed materials related to the cultural history of the northeastern Kentucky. Search the Appalachian-Kentucky Collection.

Career Collection

  • The Career Collection contains books about job hunting, interview skills, and resume design. It has study guides for many of the professional exams such as the GRE, MCAT, and PRAXIS. It also has books about career choices, scholarships, and graduate schools.  Explore Career Resources.

Kentucky Folk Art Center

  • The Folk Art Center houses a permanent collection of nearly 1,400 pieces of self-taught art. Dozens of works from the collection are displayed on a rotating basis in the center’s first floor gallery. Visit the Kentucky Folk Art Center online.  Search for books housed at KFAC.

Genealogy Collection

  • The Genealogy Collection consists of publications related to the families that settled in Central Appalachia during the 18th and 19th centuries. Collection includes vital records, birth and death directories, state and county census materials and local and regional family histories. Search the Genealogy Collection.

Government Documents

  • Camden-Carroll Library was designated a Federal Depository Library in 1955. We currently receive approximately 45.5% of the materials distributed by the Government Printing Office in Washington D.C. These materials are distributed in many formats including paper, microfiche, videotape, CD-ROM, DVD, and online/electronic documents. Visit the library's Government Documents webpage.

Graphic Novels Collection

  • The Graphic Novel Collection includes comic strip and comic book collected editions along with many contemporary single-volume graphic novels from the Americas, Europe, and Japan. Patron requests and staff picks are the main drivers behind the selection of titles for this collection. Search the Graphic Novels Collection.

Learning Resource Center

  • The Learning Resource Center (LRC) Collection contains audiovisual media which includes sound recordings, books on CD, media players, DVDs, and teaching aids such as puppets, games, and manipulative objects. It also contains children’s literature book collection and a preschool–grade 12 collection of textbooks and materials to assist teachers.

Main Collection

  • Our Main Collection, comprising most of our non-fiction books, is arranged by Dewey Decimal classification and covers most topics.

Main Fiction Collection

  • The Main Fiction Collection contains popular fiction books and prize winning contemporary literature. We strive to collect in all genres of interest to the MSU population.

Map Collection

  • The Map Collection includes atlases, topographic maps, and other types of maps. The collection also includes U.S. document maps and the reference atlas stand.

Morehead State University Archives

  • The mission of Special Collections & Archives is to collect, preserve and make available items that pertain to the history of Morehead State University and its service region, and the culture and history of Eastern Kentucky. Archives is charged with maintaining the institutional memory of Morehead State University. Board of Regents minutes, The Raconteur yearbooks, photographs, the presidential papers, and the papers of Dr. Adron Doran and Mrs. Mignon Doran are a few of the collections housed in Archives.

Morehead State University Thesis Collection

Multicultural Collection

  • The Multicultural Room houses a reference collection of non-fiction and fiction works on various cultures around the world. It has cultural specific resources for many different topics and is decorated with artwork from different cultures.

Music Collection

  • The Music Collection includes over 10,000 music scores and books on a variety of music related topics.
  • Location: 4th Floor East (Library Tower)

Periodicals Collection

Recreational Reading Collection

  • The Recreational Reading Collection contain the newest bestsellers in fiction and non-fiction, including biographies. It also contains the Student Picks collection, a list of materials that students from MSU have requested be available.

Reference Collection

Special Collections

  • The mission of Special Collections & Archives is to collect, preserve and make available items that pertain to the history of Morehead State University and its service region, and the culture and history of Eastern Kentucky. Special Collections includes the Roger W. Barbour Collection, the James Still Collection, and the Jesse Stuart Collection. Books on Kentucky and Appalachia also comprise the collection. Search Special Collections.
